Islamabad: In response to complaints lodged by various political parties citing alleged irregularities, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued orders on Monday for the removal of Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon from their respective posts.

The decision was made during a meeting convened by the Election Commission on December 26 to address concerns raised by political entities. Following the deliberations, it was officially confirmed by the Settlement Division that both IG Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan and DC Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon have been relieved of their duties.

A letter from Khurram Agha, Secretary of the Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwarul Haq Kakar, to the Secretary Establishment Division, indicates that recommendations have been sought for a panel of officers to fill the now-vacant positions.

Additionally, the interim premier forwarded a summary of the removal of Ahad Cheema to President Arif Alvi. The Cabinet Division, in its summary, highlighted the Election Commission’s decision to remove Ahad Cheema from his post.
