Islamabad, January 01, 2024 — The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a firm stance against alleged violations of the election code of conduct by some TV channels and has written a letter to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) seeking immediate action.
The letter specifically points out channels that are broadcasting election surveys, a practice prohibited by election rules. According to the ECP, such surveys conducted by media outlets influence voters and disrupt the election process. The letter urges PEMRA to take swift action against the identified channels and submit a detailed report on the matter.
The prohibition on conducting surveys and polls at polling stations and constituencies is a measure designed to maintain the integrity and fairness of the electoral process. The ECP’s move to highlight these violations aligns with the commission’s commitment to upholding the principles of free and fair elections.
